2000 Yamaha R1 1000
Spring, 2003 - Summer, 2009

After selling the Honda Shadow back to my dad, I decided on something a little different. I'd always wanted a sport bike, but the only way I could afford one was by paying cash. Full coverage insurance was just TOO much.

Through eBay, I ended up purchasing this 2000 R1, owned by a Texan Microsoft employee. Dad and I drove down in his pickup with the trailer to pick it up and bring it back home. I paid $5750 for it, and as of right now, it has just over 10,000 miles on it.

This bike puts around 150hp to the rear wheel and weighs 380 lbs. According to the manual, it'll do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, and 0-100 in 5.9 seconds. Top speed is somewhere around 180mph. Of course, I wouldn't know any of these things first hand because now I have a kid and I always drive in a safe and responsible manner (cough).

I sold this bike in 2009 for around $4k. It was probably the smartest decision I ever made when it came to selling a vehicle. Every time I rode the bike I either drove 100mph, rode around on one wheel, or both. It was a miracle I never got a ticket or had a wreck while riding this bike. Getting rid of it before one of those two things happened was a smart idea.
