Commodork

Long before the World Wide Web and high-speed Internet had arrived, computer-based Bulletin Board Systems (BBSes) ruled the land. Commodork: Sordid Tales from a BBS Junkie is a tribute to those times, back when "high speed access" meant 1200 baud and 5 1/4 floppies were king.

The book takes readers on my personal BBS journey and stretches almost twenty years, beginning with my first experiences with a home computer (a TRS-80 Model III) and ending in the mid 1990s, when the Internet began arriving in people's homes and driving the final nail into one of the most exciting and explosive hobbies of all time.

The first half of the book recalls my days as a Commodore 64 user. If you owned (or own) a C64 and called a bulletin board even once, you'll be able to relate to the stories and adventures contained within. The second half of the book documents my years in the IBM PC scene, eventually leading to a brief time where bulletin boards co-existed with the Internet.

This book contains stories about warez, hacking, and general debauchery. Those old enough will remember those lawless days -- before the "World Wide Web", we had the "Wild, Wild West". Retro-computer fans will relate to the tales contained within; those to young to remember those times will wish they had been there after reading this book.

Wow, what a whirlwind this adventure has been! Another review of the book has surfaced, this time over at TheLogBook.com. After reading the review, be sure to check out the rest of Earl's site! The Emergency Chicagoland Commodore Convention was a great success -- my only regret was that I was semi-attached to my table and couldn't spend more time checking out all the other cool stuff that was at the show. What a neat group of people, keeping the C64 scene alive! Check out the official ECCC Site which now has links to several photo galleries taken during the show.

The biggest news of October is that last week, my book Commodork was listed as Lulu.com's #10 best seller of the week! THANK YOU GUYS! I am also currently listed as the #33 best selling book of the month. I couldn't have done it without y'all.

I am hoping to launch the first episode of my Commodork podcast this weekend, so drop by and check that out hopefully Sunday night.
