YDKF Episode 122: MAME Cabinets

Believe it or not I recorded the first episode of You Don’t Know Flack all the way back in 2008. Between then and now the number one requested show topic has been MAME Cabinets. For some reason I cannot explain, I never got around to recording one. That is, until last Sunday. You Don’t Know Flack Episode 122 is all about MAME Cabinets. In this episode I talk a little bit about what MAME is and a lot about the parts of a MAME cabinet and how to build your own. I did not receive any voice mails on the… (read more)

YDKF Episode 121: Thrifting

This week’s episode of You Don’t Know Flack is all about thrifting — shopping at thrift stores, garage sales, antique malls and pawn shops. Throughout this episode I’ll tell you some of the best things I’ve found at these places along with some of the worst. I also talk a bit about what has replaced them (spoiler: online auctions). The You Don’t Know Flack Podcast now has its own official voice mailbox number. The number is 206-309-9501. If you have comments, feedback or suggestions in regards to the show and don’t feel like sending me an e-mail, call that number… (read more)

YDKF Episode 120: Radio Scanners

Aaaaaaaaaaand the streak continues with another episode of You Don’t Know Flack. Episode 120 is about radio scanners, those little devices that allow you to eavesdrop on all the little conversations floating around us. In this episode I talk about my experiences with scanners and some of the things you can listen to with scanners. I also talk a little bit about how you can now listen to these frequencies using your computer and/or smartphone! YDKF Episode 119: Hohocon ’94

Another week, another episode. Episode 119 of You Don’t Know Flack is about Hohocon — specifically Hohocon ’94, the last Hohocon and the only one I attended. Hohocon was a hacker conference that ran for 5 years in a row, from 1990 to 1994. It was put on by dFx, the Cult of the Dead Cow, and Phrack Magazine. This was a tough episode to complete. During the time slot I set aside to record, my sister inconveniently and inconsiderately had a baby. Don’t you hate it when other people schedule things when you already have plans? Sheesh! All kidding… (read more)

You Don’t Know Flack Episode 115: Text Adventures

Episode 115 of my podcast You Don’t Know Flack went online earlier today for some strange reason. I had actually scheduled the post to go live this Saturday, but something went wonky with WordPress and the post decided to go live on its own today. So, there you go. Episode 115 is all about text adventures. This episode is unique in multiple ways. Not only does it feature the infamous Interactive Fiction author Robb Sherwin via Skype … but it features him for approximately two hours. What can I say? Robb and I got carried away talking about text adventures!… (read more)

YDKF Episode 114: Arcade Auctions

Episode 114 of You Don’t Know Flack is all about Arcade Auctions. In this episode I talk about my experiences of buying arcade games at auctions. I share some tips and tricks of the trade, including what to bring, what to look for, and what to expect. I have been attending arcade auctions for almost 20 years, and have purchased around 70 arcade games from auctions during that time. At You Don’t Know Flack you can download the podcast in mp3 format, or stream it directly from the site. There’s an RSS feed available, if you track your updates that… (read more)

New Microphone: Ordered!

I’m really good at kicking off new projects, and really bad at keeping them going. Case in point? The podcast. I was really enthusiastic about making new episodes in the beginning, but lately I just haven’t had the time to get back into the recording booth and get more episodes recorded. (And by “recording booth” I mean my desk at home.) Another thing I’m really good at is making excuses. The microphone I currently use to record my podcasts with is a professional quality studio mic. To get it to interface with my PC, I have to run the relatively… (read more)
