Tron and Robotron available now!

Postby Kid Ice » November 16th, 2011, 12:13 am

My first book, Tron and Robotron: Thirty Years of Electronic Gaming, is available at an online retailer near you. Link below.

Rob was the first reader, and I've basically followed his game plan all the way down the line. I think it's safe to say if you like his books, you'll like this one.

Ah! The date snuck up on me!

Your book is in a box labelled "OPEN FIRST" somewhere in my storage unit. As soon as I can find it (this weekend, hopefully) I'll post a full review and help spread the love. Congrats on the release!

Short review: Kid Ice is right -- it's a good book and if you liked Commodork, you will like Tron and Robotron!

Why would a book reseller on Amazon buy your book and then sell it for $62? Do they think your book will eventually sell out briefly and someone will pay $62? I'm guessing that's what they are trying to do.

By the way, the book looks awesome. I will try to pick it up soon.

The worst thing in this entire process... planning, writing, researching, editing, formatting, promoting, etc... has been dealing with Amazon. They're miserable.

I have always enjoyed Amazon because of their easy returns, but what I have learned as a seller is they have zero customer service. They would rather accept returns no questions asked than actually talk to people.

Thanks for picking up the book Felix! Matt or anyone else who plans on buying the book, I suggest you create an account on lulu.com and wait a week or so... they send big time discounts via e-mail. And no it doesn't cut into my royalty. ;-)

Good news! Pretty much everyone I have expected to buy the book has done so, I need to start working on strangers now.

It's on my Amazon wish list. If I don't get it for Christmas I'll buy before the new year.

PDF or Kindle version soon? I ask hopefully (I'm all about the Kindle now).

I had planned to do a Kindle version w/ an exclusive third appendix containing mini-reviews of pretty much every game I've ever played, to make it worth it for those who already bought the physical book to double dip. Not sure now. The feedback I'm getting is people love the autobiographical/personal narrative stuff, but are a little cold on the top 20 chapters/appendices. This is exactly the opposite reaction I had anticipated... I expected people to say "stick to writing about games and drop the story of your life".

Which makes me wonder if I should drop the third appendix idea and just release a (cheap) barebones electronic version.

Either way, I've already moved on to the next two books, so the e-reader version will most likely be long-a-comin. Summer 2012 at the soonest.
