Arcade Nirvana

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a fellow collector’s private arcade, about an hour south of Oklahoma City. The place isn’t open for business — it’s a 6,600 square foot private playground, a joint venture between three friends who have built the ultimate hangout for their friends and family.

If you enjoy arcade games, you won’t want to miss these photos.

Here are a few pictures to whet your appetite:

A shot of the living room area.

I performed all my own Q*Bert stunts in this scene.

  • What are the cocktails in the middle? I think I see a 48-in-1 or 60-in-1, but what is the other? Also, I love how a Super-Pac cab looks. Someday. SOME day.

  • Dean

no multigames, no mamers. all dedicated games.
the cocktails are Galaxian and Millipede

  • My and I went Saturday and WOW!

There were so many great games in such beautiful condition that I didn’t even know where to start. I loved seeing that Defender (all original –CPO aside– with all matching serial numbers…and the monitor had never even been capped!). Troy made a point of showing it off…inside and out!

I showed Troy and Terry a few tricks in Donkey Kong they didn’t know, plus a tip on hiding credit switches, so I felt I at least contributed.

It was pretty cold that day and let me tell ya, Track and Field with cold fingers is tough. I couldn’t even place on long jump. It was nice seeing a proper Asteroids Deluxe cocktail after playing it watered down in MAME. The XY monitor really makes a huge difference.

I hope they get that game day together soon, because I’m ready to go back!

  • Somehow the word “wife” didn’t make it into that first sentence.
