Weekend Spirit

This past weekend was one of those weekends where the fam and I started running Saturday morning and didn’t stop until Sunday evening.

Saturday morning, the Fox Kids Club was supposed to appear at Penn Square Mall. Last time when we went, they had a huge stage show set up for free for kids. They had an Elvis impersonator, they had Roger the Danger Ranger, and they had guys in superhero outfits trying to stop the evil villan who was trying to make kids eat haggis. I decided to give Susan a break Saturday, so Mason and I set out on our own while Mommy and Morgan stayed home. When we got to the mall, there was basically nothing set up. This time, there were just a couple of DJ’s leading the kids in some sort of variation on musical chairs. A winner was picked the guys said, “great, see you in an hour!” So, that was that. Further into the mall we ran into an area they had set up for kids to play Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), the videogame where you dance along to the music by stomping on different arrows with your feet.

Mason did absolutely horrible but had a good time doing it (and managed to score higher than that girl standing next to him). After wandering around the mall for a while we decided to go home. On the way home, while driving down 39th street, Mason asked if we could drive by the lake. Can do. So, we swung by Lake Overholser, parked the car, climbed down on the rocks and sat and watched the waves splashing up on the rocks. Mason thought the whole thing was pretty neat.

Sunday was like a twelve hour sprint. Our neice Jessica begins driving this week, so the ritual of installing the kid’s first car stereo has been passed to me. I passed the honor to Circuit City. Here’s how Sunday played out.

11:00am – Picked up Jessica’s car. Susan drove it while I drove the van with the kids in it.

11:30am – Got to Circuit City, bought the stereo and speakers, didn’t have time for them to begin installing it. Left the car in the parking lot.

12:00pm – Get to Quail Springs Mall in time for Susan’s eye appointment. Schedule one for me as well.

12:15pm – Get eye exam. Get told I need glasses. Go next door to LensCrafters.

1:00pm – Finish at LensCrafters, Glasses will be ready in two hours.

1:30pm – Arrive at Circuit City. Drop the car off in the installation bay. They say the car will be ready by 4pm.

2:00pm – Lunch at CiCi’s Pizza.

3:00pm – Back at Quail Springs Mall to pick up glasses. While we’re there, Mason and I play in the arcade and Susan tries to feed Morgan. Unfortunately, the bottle is leaking and things aren’t going well, so it’s out of the mall and off to Wal-Mart.

3:30pm – Leaving Wal-Mart. I feed Morgan in the car while Susan shops and Mason watches Spongebob.

4:00pm – Get call from Circuit City, car’s ready. Pick up car around 4:20pm. Get home close to 5pm.

5pm-7pm – Nap.

7pm – Wake up to house full of people. Show the neice how the stereo works. Everybody’s happy.

1am – Remember that we didn’t have dinner.
