Ramblings

Susan has rented a lakeside cabin for the weekend, so in a few hours we’re going to pack up the essentals (laptops and cell phones) and head out. Susan says she wants to “get away” but we’re taking the children with us so I’m not sure what we’re “getting away” from, except all the stuff I like not getting away from like electricity and such. Fortunately we just have the cabin for a day, at which point I’ll get away from all the getting away from my stuff.

Last night, Susan and I went out to dinner and then to a comedy club with our friends Tim and Dawn. Not much to report — good friends, good food, good times. The comics seemed especially funny last night. Maybe I needed a mental break more than I realized.

Friday night, all four of us went to a co-worker’s daughter’s high-school basketball game. I highly recommend it to anyone who sits around the house saying, “Boy, I wish I felt a lot older than I already do!”. While I expected to be older than the kids playing basketball, I didn’t realize I would be older than all of the coaches, refs, and concession workers. I’m surprised no one offered us a senior citizen discount when we walked in.

Recently I got into a conversation about public transportation in and around Oklahoma City. I decided to check gometro.com and figure out a way to take a city bus to work. The end result? By driving, I can get to work in 20 minutes (it’s a 12 mile drive). By using the bus, I would have to either drive or get a cab for 10 miles, and it would turn the 20 minute trip into a 3 hour tour (a 3 hour tour). Bus pass or no pass, I think I’ll have to pass.
