Nasty Pirates – February

Sticking to our schedule, last weekend marked our second monthly gathering of Nasty Pirates. While January’s theme was “Bad Movies”, February’s theme was “Videogames” with bad movies on the side.

Just like last month, Susan treated the pirates to a late night meal. This month’s snacks included brisket, Carol’s Mexican dip, chips, rolls, and homemade brownies. Andy was running a little late and since we couldn’t eat and play games at the same time, I grabbed a random DVD from the pile (“Redneck Zombies”) and we watched that in varying speeds (a lot of fast forwarding took place). Once everyone was done eating we broke out the Wii.

I have four Wii controllers and lots of four-player games, but rarely do I have four people over who all want to play Wii. I was lucky that night, and the four of us worked our way through a pile of two and four player games. There was head-to-head racing with ExciteTruck, some rail shooting with House of the Dead and Ghost Squad, a bit of smashing with Rampage, and of course some “Wii party gaming” with WarioWare Smooth Moves and Carnival Games. Everybody had a good time playing and, like the previous month, the emphasis was on everybody talking and having a good time rather than winning or losing.

After several hours of Wii gaming we got to talking about Jackass and I ended up putting on a couple of DVDs. First up was CKY’s first DVD, followed by Steve-O’s incredibly accurately named DVD, “Don’t Try This At Home,” which consists of equal amounts of a usually naked Steve-O jumping off of things, setting himself on fire, getting hurt, puking, or getting hurt while jumping off of things while puking and on fire. Don’t try this at home, indeed.

We had a 100% turnout and everybody left happy and fed. March is “Poker Night” and everybody is already saving their change for that!

It sounded like they had a great time. I am REALLY glad you’re doing this w/the guys. I need to get you a sign for the upstairs that says…”you are now entering the MAN CAVE” with something clever to go with it. Nite.

It IS hella fun — not because of the games we played or movies we watched, but because of the friends I have. The newest friend in that picture, Josh, I met in 1990. I met Jeff in 1985, Scott in ’79 and Andy in ’78 (I was born in ’73).
