It’s funny how sometimes you blink and life seems to be flying by so fast. Two or three times this week I’ve started stories at work with “you know, I remember back when …”. Every time I mention that payphones cost .50 per call now, people tell me I’m wrong and that they’re only .35 cents. Within a couple of days they always come back by and say, “you know what, you were right! I had no idea!”
It’s been a couple of blinks since I’ve added to the site. Here’s a few things that have happened over the past week or so.
Last week at work we had a major power outage that lasted several hours — talk about a bunch of nervous nerds! For a couple of hours we sat in the semi-dark, first listening to battery backup units chirping and later listening to the sound of servers shutting down. Then, the emergency generator at work ran out of fuel. We work in a basement with (obviously) no windows. Talk about dark. Talk about a long night. We eventually recovered.
This week Susan and I watched both Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Colombine. Good, slanted films. I can see why the Bush camp wouldn’t like F9/11 being shown during an election year. I was ready to vote for Kerry immediately after watching the film. Fortunately, it’s been a couple of days and I’ve gone back to not caring.
Mason got sick at daycare … caught some sort of stomach virus. He got over it quickly, but gave it to me. I then spent four or five days with a 100 degree fever (hospitals are for wimps — 7up, McDonald’s Cheeseburgers and time solves most stomach problems. Known fact). Just as I’m getting over the bug, I just gave it back to Mason. Susan’s still scrubbing poo out of Mason’s carpet. I did my time hosing the boy down in the shower.
In six days, Susan, Mason, Dad, Linda, and myself will all pile into the minivan and head to Chicago. I’m sure there will be many stories and many pictures posted after the trip. We’re going to be there August 5th – August 10th.
Ah crap. It just dawned on me that my eBay auction ends the day after I leave town. Somebody’s going to have to wait a couple of days to pick up their arcade game.
